So, I have this thing with Special Days. I feel an uncontrollable and unbridled excitement for any kind of Special Day, whether it be Christmas, Birthdays, Mothers Day, Fathers Day or… really… just any day of the week. And I always hope, NAY EXPECT, others around me to share it too. But the problem is that my abnormal levels of enthusiasm means I expect too much, and regardless of what occurs, I find myself disappointed. It’s ridiculous I know. So, we had a family photo shoot last weekend for the blog. It was awkward as hell, but it had to be done. Well, it didn’t HAVE to be done, but I had been given a voucher to have it done by the amazing and talented Celeste Reid Larkins and I was actually really excited about it. In the lead up to it I had all of these visions about how kick ass I would be. I had all of these super cool outfit plans in my head, never mind the fact that I would have to get changed mid location surrounded by weeds, enraged magpies and the occasional piles of dog poo. Oh dear god. We have fleas. Yep, we’ve got a case of the dirty stinking flippity flappy fleas. Well, to be more specific – the poor dog is the one with the flea problem (and also quite possibly the carpet), but WE have to live with him living with fleas, and that’s tough enough. I don’t know if you feel the same in your household, however I always feel like I am coming in second place in the parenting stakes. Yep guys, I am now the Second Place Mum. I don’t know what it is. I never used to feel this way, but as time has gone on I feel more like I am becoming the “I-guess-she-will-do-if-she-is-the-only-one-here” kind of parent. Sigh. And it hugely sucks balls when you are the parent that is clung to only when daddy is nowhere to be seen. (more…)
