Dear Baby – a letter to my unborn child

Ellyn Shepherd / Baby, Bloggity Blog, Mumma / / 2 comments

The funniest thing happened today. I came across a batch of letters that I had written to my unborn baby during my pregnancy! In those letters, I talked about my hopes and dreams for my little one. I talked about how I hoped my labour would be and what I imagined that our life would be like afterwards. Reading over those letters now, almost 9 months after the birth of that same little baby, and they still make me smile. I can feel such hope, excitement and happiness in the words. I can feel that sense of beginning – the feeling that our life was just about to start. (more…)

Holy Moly I’m excited. My fingers are kinda trembly, and I feel like I could just BURST because I am so excited. And do you know why I am excited? No, you sigh, and please don’t make me guess. Well, because it was our first Christmas as a family with our sweet baby! Raaaaaarrrrr! Hooray! (more…)

Our first Family Holiday

Ellyn Shepherd / Bloggity Blog, Life / / 2 comments

Ahhhh holidays. The excitement, the anticipation, the sense of impending adventure. We went on our first family holiday at the end of October with our then five and a half month old baby boy, and Noosa was our destination. We couldn’t wait to frolic amongst the sunshine, the surf, and be surrounded by the sweet sweet air of anywhere else but here. (more…)

Five Great Books For Babies That We Love

Ellyn Shepherd / Baby, Bloggity Blog, Mumma / / 2 comments

I love to read. I read as much as I can whenever I have the time, and love nothing more than losing myself in a really good book. I love being transported to a magical world where anything is possible, and stories that are so thrilling and mind boggling that my heart rate increases and I start to skim the pages, unable to move my eyes fast enough in my desperate rush to find out what happens next. Ten things all new mums want (without having to ask)

Ahhh… Becoming a new parent. The excitement. The joy. The new baby smell, and the precious awareness of new life. We parents wander around in a state of delirious bliss for those first few months whilst adjusting to life with our brand spanking new baby. We are entertained by a continuous stream of visitors all wanting to spoil us and spend time with our baby, enabling us to live those initial days out in an exhausting but happy bubble. Life is beautiful. It’s magical. It’s bliss. However the visitors stop. (more…)

Parent or Crazy-pants?

I love babies. I mean, I have always thought they were lovely and fine and blah blah blah, but now that I have one of my very own I have found that I really REALLY love babies. They are so freaking cute, and all seem to be such squidgy, wriggly, happy little souls. (more…)

The First Smile

Wait…did he just fart or is he smiling at me? Those first few weeks after you bring your baby home are tough. Trying to master the change, feed, play, sleep schedule on minimal sleep can be a challenge. You find yourself bleary eyed and dreaming about the day when your little person looks at you and smiles, rather than just staring at you with that concerned who the hell are you and what the hell am I doing here look on his or her face. This Breastfeeding Business

Ellyn Shepherd / Baby, Bloggity Blog, Mumma / / 20 comments

Well. Breastfeeding was hard. Much harder than I thought. As a woman you believe it to be a natural process, and that it is instinctual for both your body and your baby to feed and to in turn be fed. You take the ability to do it for granted. I looked forward to this beautiful & relaxing process and thought it was my special gift as a woman and my natural right as a future mother, to be able to feed my own child with my body. And like a jerk, I had smugly assumed that it would be easy. And of course it can be…it just wasn’t that way for me. For me, it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. (more…)
